I love a good logo.
There have been lots of lawyers on TV. Occasionally, especially in the cartoons, we get a quick glimpse of their logos or business cards. Most of them are comically bad, like these, for “Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law,” or The Simpsons’ Lionel Hutz. (I especially appreciate how the Simpsons’ writers unbalanced Hutz’s scale and the “A Touch of Class” tag line next to the wine bottle on Birdman’s.)
Or Lionel Hutz’s sponge business card.
Note the “As seen on TV” and the “Clogging our courts since 1976” slogan:
I previously wrote about The Simpsons’ courthouse logo for the Springfield Elementary school’s Youth Court, basically a grammar school version of Judge Judy (played by Attorney General Janet Reno), where the balanced scales of justice was replaced by a teeter totter!!!
A see-saw??? That’s absolute genius. [I want to meet whoever came up with that visual gag.]
One of my favorite gags was from the “Green Acres” TV show, which ran from 1965-71. For younger readers, in this classic sitcom, a hotshot NYC lawyer decides to uproot his glamorous wife played by the fabulous Eva Gabor, pack up the mushrooms he’d been cultivating in his desk drawer, and move to a quirky, middle-of-nowhere rural community to become a farmer.
Here’s my favorite joke from the pilot episode — the name of the eight-lawyer firm on the front door.
Seven three-name partners: Felton, O’Connell, Clay, Blakely, Harmon, Dillon, & Pastor.
And the single associate? Our hero, Oliver Wendall Douglas.
